[EDIT]
PFLAG Cornhusker presented a beautiful walnut plaque to Lincoln High School's Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Straight Alliance on October 21. The plaque commemorates the group's ten-year anniversary.
The anniversary is truly an historic event in Nebraska's GLBT History, especially for GLBT youth. Lincoln High organized the first GLBTS Alliance in the state, and it is the first to reach the ten-year mark.
Lincoln High teacher John Heinaman started the organization on National Coming Out Day, October 1992. He and teacher Ruth Kupfer have been the sponsors since then.
The organization sponsored a regional GLBT conference, began GLBT proms, organized a rally at the State Capitol, participated in the recent Chain Around the Capitol, and is a place the GLBT youth community can congregate with their straight allies.
On its tenth anniversary, the group held a school assembly and reception to mark the historic event. Several PFLAG members were in attendance. The plaque presented by PFLAG Cornhusker will be hung in a hall at the school.
