New NE GLBT Online News Journal
Posted: Wednesday, March 31, 2004   [EDIT]
-- Posted Thursday, April 1, 2004
The Nebraska GLBT community (and surrounding areas) now has access to its own online media. Called Prairie Sky, it is housed at prairiesky.org. The website features a monthly news journal, resource lists, and a forum for open discussion. The website also has the capacity to give immediate action alerts. Along with state GLBT news, features and columns, Prairie Sky will also carry pertinent national and Midwest news.

Many of the same staff who wrote for the now defunct Nebraska GLBT print media Stepping Out are contributing writers.

The April issue is out. Amy Miller from ACLU Nebraska wrote about the ongoing lawsuit against the Defense of Marriage Amendment 29 and highlighted the GLBT families who are suing the State of Nebraska. Pat Tetreault of University of Nebraska at Lincoln wrote on Religion, Spirituality, and Well-being. BJ Wheeler kicked off a series on Welcoming Congregations. Upcoming issues will feature a history of Proposition 416 (Nebraska’s Defense of Marriage Act) from the very beginning and take a look at the anti-bullying programs in the Lincoln High Schools. Ongoing columns include: Transworld, Youth, and GLBT family and parenting concerns.

Prairie Sky accepts contributions of letters to the editor, poetry, photos, drawings, and for-sale or rental advertising. We also accept union/marriage announcements. Personal ads will be accepted in the future when this feature is set up. Advertising from GLBT or ally businesses or professionals is solicited. Ads in the following formats are accepted: GIF, Animated GIF, JPEG, Flash, Text (sponsor ads only). For information on ad rates contact: advertising@prairiesky.org.
