Remembering Alan Hansen
Posted: Saturday, April 28, 2007   [EDIT]
Our very long time PFLAG member Alan Hansen passed away last month. He will be greatly missed. He was an early member of PFLAG Cornhusker, and for many years he and Lois were the facilitators of the youth session at our PFLAG meetings. We remember Alan for his kindness, friendliness, caring, and his wonderful sense of humor.

Alan was a strong GLBT advocate, lobbying at the legislature for GLBT bills. He joined CFEP when that organization first started in Omaha in the early nineties, the organization that sees that GLBT legislation is introduced in the legislature each session. Southeast Community College has sexual orientation in its anti-discrimination policy because of Alan Hansen’s advocacy when he was a board member of that school. Thank you, Alan.

Update: GLBT Bills
Posted: Saturday, April 28, 2007   [EDIT]
GLBT Bills LB475, LB205, and LB571

The Judiciary Committee priority bill, LB475, is on general file with an amendment, AM399, which excludes religious institutions and corporations. This bill amends the Nebraska Fair Employment Act to prohibit discrimination in employment based on sexual orientation. Ask your senator to vote for this bill.

The anti-bullying bill, LB205, is on general file. Senator Erdman is trying to water it down by eliminating the protected classes which include sexual orientation. Please ask your senator to vote against the amendment but for the bill.

The second parent adoption bill, LB571, has been heard but is still in committee. This bill will make it clear that any two people may adopt a child, regardless of their marital status. Write, email, or call member of the Judiciary Committee to pass the bill up to general file. Judiciary Committee members include Senators Ashford, Chambers, Lathrop, McDonald, McGill, Pedersen, Pirsch, and Schimek.
