Rally to be held July 20th
Posted: Wednesday, July 12, 2000
[EDIT]
Once again the radical right is seriously threatening the GLBT community! The Defense of Marriage Amendment Committee, headed by Guyla Mills, has most likely collected enough signatures from their petition drive to place a proposed constitutional amendment, banning same-sex unions, on the ballot this November. The proposed amendment reads as follows:
"Only marriage between an man and a woman shall be valid or recognized in Nebraska. The uniting of two persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership or other same-sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Nebraska."
Nebraskans Advocating Justice and Equality (NAJE) has been formed as a political action group to fight the proposed amendment. NAJE is a member of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.
NAJE has planned dual rallies in Omaha and Lincoln on Thursday, July 20th at 7:00 PM. Please plan to attend, and encourage your friends and family members to attend also. The Lincoln Rally will be held at the Unitarian Church , 6300 'A' Street. This meeting will provide training to fight the proposed amendment. Specific task groups will also be formed to do the work ahead. Please get involved! If friends or family members are unable to attend, bring their addresses, phone numbers and email addresses to the meeting.
